Doors
What a creation right? Come in different shapes, sizes , colours , textures and so and so forth. They never fail to amaze me. Some can be opened and closed right away by just a little effort at the periphery of the door while others with stoppers attached take time. Some are glass transparent while others wood opaque. The best part is their utility. How safe an object as fundamental as a door can make you feel !
Here at our residence we have certain doors that serve us daily . They're a part of us now. There are certain others that we no longer turn to. That don't serve us any purpose now. Behind those doors lie some dusty snippets of past life and some frivolous objects. For long it has been my theory that if you can go without an object for three months straight, you can go without it for life. Some say six months but I have a shorter range. I came across this T-shirt that I thought I'd never forget and never be bored of . Like always, I kept my promise but it doesn't fit me anymore and bites me around the edges.Mama has been giving me lessons on sustainability for long now but my attached self finds it very hard to outgrow things I once so deeply cared about. This is the problem with doors. You keep them closed and it's all roses and sunshine and there's no confusion but the moment you open them ,all the memories come flooding in. Had this door been transparent ,I could've resisted the urge to keep checking on the contents inside it . Like a child , I keep opening it to see if anything's changed but it's becoming dustier by the day. Somebody very rightly said that closed doors were closed for a reason . Remember how in some horror movies, they have this sealed lock on certain doors. Remember how in ancient mythology, kings left the door to treasures locked and evanesced the key into thin air? You see how serviceable and handy these wretched doors are? Doors were made for keeping out certain things. It is on you to decide whether you want to extend the three month deadline on the door or put the objects inside for give-away when the timer buzzes. The writer would suggest the latter in the sound interest of climate action efforts and sustainable development.
Love.
